The book of Judges makes no attempt to be cosmetic. It openly portrays wickedness among the people of God. Since there is essentially one church in all ages, the modern church cannot read the book of Judges without realizing that it is also morally and spiritually implicated. As Peter Bloomfield opens up the text he shows how it speaks powerfully to our generation. It highlights the marvellous grace of God but it also warns against presumption. It is exactly the message needed by the modern church. Unless it hearkens to the message of Judges the church will continue repeating ancient mistakes.

Judges is the latest title in The Guide series. These books aim to communicate the Christian faith in a straightforward and readable way and encourage believers to live out their faith. This series covers books of the Bible on an individual basis, such as Ecclesiastes, Esther and Job, and relevant topics, such as creation, stewardship, Christian comfort and truth.

Please note:
The Guide website supporting this series is no longer active for which we apologize. If you do want to contact one of the authors then please email sales@epbooks.org and we will do our best to pass the message/question on.

After an Economics degree in Canberra, Peter Bloomfield taught at several High Schools for eight years before completing a B.D. Hons. Degree which let to ordination in the Presbyterian Church of Eastern Australia in 1982. In 1990 he accepted a call to Bald Hills Presbyterian Church (North Brisbane) where he continues to serve. Since 1984 Peter has also been a lecturer at the Presbyterian Reformed College of Ministries in Brisbane. He is married to Lesley and they have two daughters and three grandchildren. He is also the author of Esther and Job in The Guide series.

This volume is not a commentary in the accepted sense, nor a mere rehashing of a large slice of Israel’s history - some 350 years - because throughout the emphasis is on practical lessons for godly living that a modern Christian can learn from the lives of the different Judges'.
