31 Great chapters of the Old Testament
We are all called to great living. Living in which we rise above the small and trivial to achieve the purpose for which God made us. What is that purpose? It is to live in such a way as to bring pleasure and glory to the Creator (Rev. 4:11).   We cannot live this way on our own. We must have help, and God has graciously given us help in his Word. The Bible gives us his guidelines for living. It tells us what he expects of u... more »

A Promise is a Promise
'The Christian's God is a promising God', so says one of the great Puritans, Robert Traill. There could be no Christianity without this. Christianity exists because God has made his promises. God's promises encourage us to trust him and pray to him, they give us an incentive to obey him and give us assurance and peace in the present and hope for future. In a day when many Christians are downcast and troubled by the... more »

Apostasy Destruction and Hope
As 2 Kings opens, we find the people of God divided into two kingdoms: Israel and Judah. Neither kingdom was to last. By the end of the book both kingdoms had been taken captive — Israel by the Assyrians and, over 130 years later, Judah by the Babylonians. It is impossible for us today to comprehend adequately just how devastating it was for the Israelites to be taken into captivity in this way. They needed help, and the author of 2 Kings provide... more »

Be patient God hasn’t finished with me yet!
It might seem to some to be an astonishing thing for an author to ask his readers to join him in a study of the life of Jacob. Jacob lived a very long time ago. There were no computers. Jacob did not send or receive e-mail. There were no television sets, no VCRs, and no cars. What possible value is there, then, in the study of the life o... more »

Be patient... (French)
It might seem to some to be an astonishing thing for an author to ask his readers to join him in a study of the life of Jacob. Jacob lived a very long time ago. There were no computers. Jacob did not send or receive e-mail. There were no television sets, no VCRs, and no cars. What possible value is there, then, in the study of the life of a man so far removed from our own sophisticated times? Firstly, we study the life of Jacob simply because it is in the Bible. The Bible is a special book. The books of the... more »

Exploring the fascinating life of Jesus
There are times when doubting, fears, and even despair, seem to encompass us, causing us to doubt our faith in Jesus Christ. This excellent examination of the life of Jesus, as related in the four Gospels, shows or simply reminds us who he was, why he came, why he died, and his purpose, before, during, and after his short time on this earth. ... more »

Faithful Under Fire
the life of Joseph is a compelling source of encouragement for Christians who find themselves confronted with the pressures of daily living. Joseph's message to them is clear: look to God's promises and draw strength from them. God can, through these promises, enable us to endure the arrows of affliction that fly our way and even to respond with the arrows of kindness, patience and faith. But Joseph not only demonstrated what it means to live in dependence on God's Word, he also c... more »

Foundations for the faith
The Gospel of John may very well be the best loved of all the books of the Bible. Written at a time when many false teachers were challenging the basic facts of the gospel, John produced this grand and glorious Gospel that its readers ‘may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God’.As many today seem to be following that same path of un... more »

From glory to ruin
1 Kings traces the history of God's people from the heights of glory and prosperity enjoyed during the reign of Solomon, through the subsequent division into separate northern and southern kingdoms, and on to the dark days of Elijah's lone stand on Mount Carmel against the worshippers of the false God Baal and its aftermath. The example of Solomon and those who followed him stands as a stark warning to Christians today of the serious consequences of disobedience to God's revealed... more »

He is Altogether Lovely
This is the best work on Christ and his church from the Song of Solomon that I have ever read. It is enjoyable reading. It is true to the Scriptures, doctrinally sound, instructive on so many vital subjects, and yet it is written in such language and with such devotion and warmth that all believers will not only understand what they read, but enjoy reading about their Lord and his church. more »

Hold Your Course
Paul’s letter to the Colossians is extremely relevant for today. The church is still assaulted with heresies of all kinds: heresies that call into question the authority of Jesus Christ, the sufficiency of the once-for-all sacrifice of Christ, and the ever-present desire to ‘improve’ the gospel to make it attractive to the unbelieving world. Roger Ellsworth will guide you though Pa... more »

How to live in a dangerous world
Our televisions and newspapers bombard us with dangers threatening our economy, our environment, our educational system and more, but the greatest dangers we face are spiritual ones. The dangers which worry us the most are often able to damage us only here and now, but mistaken beliefs can lead to eternal ruin.Roger Ellsworth identifies many of the major beliefs and values of... more »

Martyn Lloyd-Jones says of the cross of Christ, 'It was a most momentous hour since the beginning of the world, it is indeed the turning-point which determines everything - it is the greatest event, the most ...climactic event that has ever taken place in this world... Moses
The life of Moses presents us with difficulties and challenges much like those we are facing today. We live in times in which the dark storm clouds of opposition and hatred are increasingly gathering over the people of God. The stage is being set for the Antichrist. The times are so dark and troubling that many Christians find themselves disheartened and discouraged. As we study his life, we shall find comfort in knowing that our God is as sufficient for us as he was for Moses. Three men towe... more »

Strengthening Christ’s Church
Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians was directed to a deeply troubled church in the midst of a very challenging world. The problem was that the church was contaminated by society’s sins and confused in its thinking. If this sounds hauntingly familiar it is because it hits perilously close to home. Today’s church finds herself in a frightening secular world, one in which paganism is aggressive and militant. Opportunities are great but the church often seems to b... more »

The 31 Days of Christmas
The entrance into this world of God the Son as a little baby was an event staggering in its implications. Apart from the sufferings, death and resurrection of Christ, with the glories that were to follow, there has never been a more profound and dramatic event.Contemplating God’s glorious plan of salvation, the apostle Paul exclaimed: ‘Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!’ (2 Cor. 9:1... more »

The God of all Comfort
The prophecy of Isaiah consists of sixty-six chapters. Its last twenty-seven chapters may be considered to be a book within a book. These chapters, which are bound together by the theme of comfort, can be called ‘God’s Book of Comfort.’ This portion of God’s Word lends itself well to a devotional format, and this book has been structured in that way. The reader will find at the beginning of each chapter some suggestions on how to get the most out of each chapt... more »

The Christian life is rarely trouble-free and there are many trials that the people of God have to go through. The Guide ... the Bible book by book
A guide to the sixty-six books of the Bible. One of the most fascinating aspects of the Bible is its unity. While many authors contributed to it, all their writings are connected with one theme. That one theme is the redemption of sinful men and women through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. A shorter way of stating this theme is ‘Paradise lost and regained.’ This is the aim of this guide; to provide an... more »

What the Bible teaches about Angels
ANGELS in movies, television shows, figurines, books, magazine articles and seminars — angels are everywhere! This would seem to be very good news. After all, the Bible does have a lot to say about angels, mentioning them 273 times. Should we not welcome such widespread interest in a biblical topic?Yet interest in a biblical topic is of no value if we are not biblical about the topic. All too often, the... more »
