Samuel Rutherford was born in Nisbet, Roxburghshire, Scotland around 1600. From Jedburgh grammar school he continued his education at Edinburgh University where in 1621 he obtained an MA. He is probably best known as the Pastor of Anwoth where he settled in 1627 and laboured with much success.
