This important little volume was produced as an occasional paper by the Presbyterians Historical Society of England in 1937.
S. W. Carruthers and his father William Carruthers distinguished themselves as scholars of the texts of both the 'Confession' and 'Shorter Catechism'. The critical editions of the 'Confession' in use today in the various Presbyterian and Reformed communions owe their accuracy to the persistent and precise labours of the Carruthers.
"This book not only provides a critical text and apparatus, but also an account of the history of the textual variations found in the leading editions of that great document. No serious student of the theology of the 'Confession' should be without it." J. Ligon Duncan, III, General Editor, Westminster Assembly Project Chairman, Department of Systematic Theology, Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi, USA
